The Annual Provincial Pride Art Exhibition is uniquely Southland: in theme, and also in that it is sponsored by local businesses. Artist's produce works that reflect our province and transfer their observations, experiences, thoughts and emotions through their chosen medium. Each year the works presented are thought provoking and inspiring, taking an all-encompassing look at Southlands cultural complexity and scenic beauty. This exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate Southland and the talented artists in our region.

The "Obsessed by Teddies" exhibition is now on display in the mezzanine gallery. These incredible, and adorable hand-made teddies by Lesley Marshall, Christine McFarland, Judy Devine, Trish Brinsdon and Rhonda Walker bring a fresh, and fun atmosphere to the gallery.

Southsure Emerging Artist Awards3rd - 15th November
Galleries 1 & 2 The 2014 Southsure Emerging Artist Awards is a chance for SIT art and media students to display their most recent works. This year the exhibition will be held across many sites in Invercargill, with City Gallery being one of the main venues. Opening 5.30pm Monday 3rd September at Raw Gallery, SIT Downtown Campus (opposite City Gallery on Don Street). City gallery will also be open for viewing. The Awards evening will take place at 5.30pm Friday 14th November at City Gallery -All Welcome |

The annual ILT Art Awards are a highlight in the City Gallery's exhibition calendar! Thanks to the generosity of the Invercargill Licensing Trust we are able to run this prominent exhibition which attracts entries from across NZ. The exhibition creates great exposure for artists, with the chance to be awarded prizes in one of seven categorizes this year.

Opening the gate features the intriguing artwork of New Zealand artists: The photography/digital manipulation of Mike O'Kane, ceramics by Madeleine Child & Philip Jarvis, the large scale mixed media works of Jo Robertson and water colours by Sam Mitchell.

The Annual Senior Schools Exhibition 2014
Opening Friday 14th March Closing Friday 28th March The Senior Schools exhibition is a time for our young Southland artists to show their innovation and talents by presenting the artwork they created for final hand-in in the previous year of NCEA. It is important to the City Gallery & Southland Art Society to show the creativity and skill of our young artists here in Southland, and is a great opportunity for the students to experience exhibiting in a gallery setting. We currently have 30 students work on display from Southland Girls High, Southland Boys High, Aparima College, Verdon College, James Hargest High School, Wakitipu High School, Murihiku Young Parents Learning Center and Central Southland College. Thanks to Malloch McClean for sponsoring this Exhibition. |
